I believe in Thank You notes.
Like good-old, hand-written notes. In the mail.
As wedding presents start rolling in, I’ve been busy getting my notes in the mail. Usually the next day. I’m like a Thank You note Ninja.
But in order to do something cute at the wedding for your cards you have to wait until the wedding (clearly) and that would kill me dead. Besides, using cards I already have is greener, right? Because I’m not buying new cards? Or… yeah?
My promptness with Thank You notes is something of a family joke. I was always showing up my cousins with my speedy appreciation of Christmas gifts. You guys spend Christmas Day playing with new toys? I spend it addressing mail to my nearest and dearest. BOOM.
No apologies, kids. Promptness is a virtue.
Here’s my secret: When I was about 12, someone told me that Princess Diana always sent Thank You notes the day after she received gifts. In fact, sometimes she sent notes the same day. Wow. I mean, Princess Di was my idol once Shirley Temple’s relative greatness began to fade, so clearly, this was a habit to emulate.
It may be total bollocks. I don’t know a single person who has once met Princess Di or to whom she would have shared her correspondence schedule but no matter – I’ve been a speedy thanker every since.
