Tomorrow night, my good friend, Allison, and her husband, Jason are coming to dinner. While we love hanging out with them for any reason, tomorrow’s dinner has a special purpose. Jason is a graphic designer (the very same one who helped me spiff up my site here) and he will be designing our wedding invitations.
We loved the invitations Jason designed for his own wedding last July, so he was “locked in” as our wedding-invitation-doer before I even had a ring on my finger.
I’ve been slowly gathering thoughts and ideas – via PinterestΒ and Etsy, of course.
First, Will and I love invitations with “pockets” to keep all the inserts in place. Allison and Jason had such an invitation and we loved it. Here’s some gorgeous inspiration from Etsy store Little Spark Creations:
I also love a good touch of whimsy, like this delight from Stelie Deigns:
As a Chicagoan, I fell immediately in love with this Chicago-centric invitation set by Swiss Cottage Designs:
I can’t wait to see what Jason comes up with! It’s seriously awesome to have such talented friends.

The design on all of those is charming and lovely π
I would like to make one more practical note, though. Keep older folks/relatives in mind and don’t make them hard to read for the sake of design. The heart, for instance, is very cute but the type looks kind of small and you have to rotate it all over. The who, where, and when is most important and shouldn’t get lost in the effort to look beautiful.
Sorry, pragmatic/journalist side going away now.
(and hello to anyone who met me Saturday… hahaha)

Haha, Will nixed the heart before this post was even written, but I had to include it. It’s fantastic. You are absolutely right though on sacrificing “usefulness” for “whimsy”

I love wedding invitations! I can’t wait to see what you guys pick! We did ours from a Target DIY kit. I still love it almost 3 years later. Definitely pick something that you’ll go “awwww” to years later.

Having invitations made “just for you” will be such a nice touch. I had the typical invitaitons—-that “everyone” had back in the “Olden days” when we got married….So something unique will be fun and more meaningful to you two. π

I’ve never even seen my mom’s invitation… I should ask her about that!
