Today, I’m participating in Love the Place You Live on Design Mom (one of my favorite blogs ever, despite my not being a Mom and only having a loose grasp on Design). Gabrielle Blair, Design Mom herself, encourages everyone to love the place where they live – even if it’s just for a short time.
Where am I living for a short time? New York! Time to share my explorations!
Will came out to spend the weekend with me recently. Thanks to his research (and dedication to get us reservations) we ate at the incomparable Momofuku Ko. We were early for our reservations (as we are early people) so we had time to wander around the East Village, killing time.
We were lucky, we had one of the best February days I’d ever seen – sunny, clear blue skys, warm (ish). New Yorkers (like my beloved Chicagoans) were taking advantage and everyone was out in Tomkins Square Park (most with dogs in tow).
I loved the townhouses around the square – so perfect, so quintessentially “New York.”
OK, I’m clearly not from New York and those of you are are rolling your eyes but seriously – look at the detail on the tops of the houses! Gorgeous!
It was beautiful (look at that sky!). Granted, Will and I are city people, but that beautiful day in the East Village was a perfect example of just why we are.

I think they are generally called rowhouses, or at least they were in Philly. 🙂
I grew to feel just a tiny bit like a New Yorker in the semester I spent there. I elbowed tourists and grew to hate Times Square, I fell asleep under a tree at the Bronx Botanic Garden, I navigated the subway with ease.
My favorite spot to date was definitely The Cloisters, which is a long A train ride up to the tippity-top of Manhattan… Fort Tryon Park is also quite lovely. I recommend it before you leave. 🙂

I’ve been to NY once and it rained most of the time there. But I loved just looking at all the architectural details.
Thanks for sharing

Haha, I have no sunny memories of Belgium whatsoever, but it’s still one of my favorite trips.

There is so much to see in NYC, isn’t there. I love the townhouses too with all their beautiful details – I think the piercing blue sky sets everything off so well.
