I listen to podcasts all day while I’m working. iTunes syncs to my phone, so I listen while I’m running errands as well. Will and I listen to podcasts as we drift off to sleep each night.
I listen to a lot of podcasts.
As an avid listener, I want to share some of my favorites with you. This week, podcasts for business owners:
Brilliant Business Moms – Nope, this isn’t an announcement that a wee Swyter is coming. While hosts Sarah Korhnak and Beth Anne Schwamberger are both mothers and interview other mothers, there’s something here for anyone looking to start or grow a home business. I really like the format of this podcast. Each week they interview a new entrepreneur and then follow-up with an episode about implementing something that guest mentioned (e.g., guest posting, defining your target market).
StartUp – Alex Blumberg from This American Life and Planet Money (two Helena Swyter favorites) chronicles his journey starting a podcasting company. You get to listen in as he pitches to venture capitalists and chooses a name for his company. The episode where he negotiates ownership percentages with his potential partner is like pulling up a chair to an awkward first date. It’s raw, real, and completely fantastic.
Elise Gets Crafty – As with the StartUp Podcast, I followed a content-creator I love (Elise Blaha Cripe) into her newest venture as soon as the podcast was announced. Elise interviews other crafters and bloggers about getting inspired, staying motivated, and creating a life they love.
Slate’s Working – This one’s newer, but I’m loving it so far. David Plotz interviews various people about their jobs. I loved hearing about how Stephen Colbert assesses his live audience before the show even begins and how a Pastor has to be “on” even when he’s at the grocery store buying chicken. I’m of the opinion that you can learn something from everyone’s story. Plus, I’m a bit of a voyeur.
Check out other podcasts I’ve recommended here.
