I’ve long been inspired by Elise Blaha Cripe. One thing she does annually is choose a word to reflect on for the upcoming twelve months. She then posts monthly updates on how that word applies for the upcoming month.
It’s New Year’s Eve, but I’m going to assign a word to 2012 nonetheless. That word is:
Yep, I’m retroactively summing up 2012. I know that’s not how the game is supposed to be played, but I’m making my own rules. Check back tomorrow for my word for 2013.
This was a year of enormous change.
I started the year on a project in New York. Though it allowed me to meet up with some blogger friends, I was pretty unhappy there.
So I quit my job.
And started my own company.
I’m so, so happy now. I absolutely love what I do and the people with whom I do it. I love the freedom to pursue what makes me happy (be it doing taxes, writing about taxes, or teaching about taxes). I love working from home. I get up each morning excited to get started on the day. If you talked to me at all in the past seven years, you know that this is an enormous change.
Oh, and then I got married. That was a change as well, but a very natural one. I’ve lived with Will for two years and been crazy in love with him for almost three, so becoming his wife was a rather steady transition. But an exciting one! With a party! And a fancy dress! So it counts.
Big changes. Big, fantastic changes. This year was incredible.
