A year after Will and I went to Portland, Oregon, we set our sights further up the Pacific coast and arranged a trip to Seattle. Rather than fly there, however, we took the Amtrak Empire Builder and headed north through Minnesota to the plains of northern North Dakota, the mountains of western Montana and Idaho, and the Columbia River Basin of Washington.
Will had done the research on where to stay in Seattle and got us a condo in Belltown. I’d never thought of staying in a condo before (rather than a hotel) and it was so nice to have a kitchen and laundry facilities. Will is a fantastic cook and it was fun to watch him select ingredients at the Public Market and then make us dinner.
Seattle solidified the idea that Will and I travel well together. We are both city people. Both coffee people. Both beer people. We are content to explore in the morning and then people-watch from a bar or cafe in the afternoon. It’s perfect.
