I’ve had a few questions about how I stay organized as a blogger. Now that I’ve been blogging for a year (and thus, am an expert), here’s my take.
Inspiration
I read a lot of other blogs and am constantly inspired by the creativity out there! I’ve already mentioned Feedly (an RSS reader to help me keep track of the blogs I love). I also use Pinterest to store images for potential Home Candy posts.
Google Calendar
I’m hopelessly devoted to my Google Calendar.
It’s color-coded (of course): red represents an idea for a post, yellow means I’ve written some of the post, and green is good to go.
(Notice that March 7th is highlighted above. That’s because I’m writing this post on March 7th. Another tip: write things ahead of time if you can!)
Let’s zoom in:
See that “Blogging: Staying Organized” is still yellow (because I’m writing it right now?). I’m so meta.
Google Calendar lets me quickly visualize topics so I can space things out or move items around, if needed (so I don’t write a bunch of wedding posts all in one week).
I can store additional information in the “body” of the calendar event:
Yep, on March 19th I’ll be participating in another Link Party on DesignMom (last time I covered the East Village). I hope you still tune in even though I’ve killed the surprise!
Timing
I use WordPress, but I’d imagine most blogging platforms allow you to schedule your posts ahead of time. I have mine all scheduled to go live at 6AM Central. This puts it on the web by the time east-coasters are in the office (and, hopefully, perusing the internet before getting down to business). Do I have a lot of fans on the east coast? I might someday!
Let me know if you have any other questions! I love giving you all a peek behind the curtain!

Good call on the Feedly love. I tried it out per your suggestion and I’ve fallen for it, too. It’s SO MUCH BETTER than Google Reader, and now I don’t have to keep organizing my growing list of bookmarks in my browser. Thanks for the tip!

(I’m a Feedly fan, too; I should update my recommended Google apps blog post)
I’m in awe that you can blog so much — keep it up, lady! You’re an inspiration. Oh, and your blog looks pretty. Just like you.

I read this post via my rss reader, and absolutely loved this idea. I promptly set up another Calendar (I already use Google to organize my life and keep my hubby up to date). I was able to place all my blog posts and ideas into the calendar. It was super easy and now I can see What I have done, what needs to be done and any ideas I have for future blogs!
Thanks so much for the idea!

So glad it was helpful! I’m a very visual person, so I like being able to see all my ideas spread out on a calendar.
