In 2004, my friends Esther, Allison, and I decided to head to Prague after we graduated from college that May. As a result, any plans for a big Spring Break trip were deferred – we were saving up for Europe.
Allison and I decided to see if there was a city in driving-distance that we were interested in visiting. As a result, the two of us (and a friend named Katie) headed to Nashville for a long weekend. We spent time visiting an old plantation, learning to line dance, and wandering the country music capital of America.
Katie had joined our trip later – after Allison and I agreed to share a king bed in a local hotel as that was the best deal we could find. As a result, we slept three to the bed, rotating who had to sleep in the middle.
My favorite city in Tennessee, however, is Knoxville. My family has stopped there on driving trips from Illinois to visit relatives in North Carolina. Though it makes the first day of travel really long (and the second day laughably short), we love Knoxville. In the Spring, with Mimosa trees in bloom, there’s no finer city.
