Going to the One of a Kind Show at Merchandise Mart is another Christmas-time Tradition for my mother, sister, and I. This is possibly one of the largest craft shows I’ve ever seen – both in terms of number of vendors and the volume of people attending. There was a line for the elevator to get inside!
The three of us wander somewhat strategically – we plot our course on the map and make sure to swing by the
“Gourmet Gallery” where food samples are distributed. We also have a few vendors we see each year so we stop by to say hi (sidenote: if you go to a lot of street festivals, as we do, you quickly befriend the artists).
We’ve started a new sub-tradition where we all get some matching item. Last year, it was bracelets. This year, we each got necklaces with small, gold charms. We were actually drawn to the booth where the necklaces were sold because the proprietor was named Rebecca and she was from Asheville, North Carolina. My mother has a sister named Rebecca who lives outside Asheville, so I took it as a sign. I’m obviously glad we dropped by.
The One of a Kind show is also an opportunity to get some gifts. However, I’m obligated to be mum about the relative success of that opportunity until after the 25th.
