I read a lot of blogs. For real. It was hard to keep them all straight and remember to check them for updates.
“Helena! That’s what Google Reader is for!” you clamor.
Yeah, well… I don’t like Google Reader. Something about the aesthetics. I don’t know. (Don’t smite me, Google!) Also, confession: when I first started blogging here I had a little RSS icon on my page because I knew I should not because I knew what it did.
Enter, Feedly.
I’m in love.
Why?
Ease. You could set up your own Feedly in less time than it will take you to finish this post (but you should stay and finish this post, yo). In fact, Google Reader lovers, Feedly pulls your Google Reader settings right over so you can view your favorites in their clean, simplified template.
The organization is intuitive and customizable. Feedly gets me and moves my favorite to the top:
On the left side of the main page are the categories I’ve set up to organize my blogs:
On the right, I can see a list of the new or unread posts on all the blogs I read (regardless of category). This lets me read blogs by category or by number of new/unread articles:
Share-ability. Buttons at the top of each post allow me to tweet or post a link to Facebook if I want to share it with the masses or save the post if I want to reference it later. I can easily click through to the actual blog site if I want to leave a comment or pin an image to Pinterest.
More questions? Feedly has a tutorial here.

I use Google Reader to manage all my RSS feeds. If I see one I really like I star it. Then once a week I go through my starred feeds, and if I still want to keep the post somewhere for reference, I will share it and send it to one of my evernote folders!

I have been using Bloglovin’ which I like since I get an email each morning and then can peruse what I want to read in bed and then it is still there for me to reference later on.

I am completely disorganized. I go by bookmarks, memory, and tweets. 🙂
Actually, livejournal has the ability to function as an RSS reader, and I use it to follow Marion Nestle, Dan Savage and Neil Gaiman among others. Yep, still on livejournal after 9 years… I could probably add your blog there too actually, but I like giving you site traffic.
