We celebrated Ada’s first birthday this past Saturday. After everyone had left and we were comfortably settled back up in our condo watching the promised snowfall, I reflected that we’d captured just the feeling I’d wanted to capture for this milestone – that of all the love that surrounds my baby girl. My sister made gorgeous decorations, my aunt flew in from Virginia, family arrived early to help set up, and people came from all over the city and suburbs to help celebrate.
My little one year-old is so lucky to have these people in her life.
The celebration itself was simple – pizza, cupcakes, and beer in our building’s party room. I’d sent out invitations for a “Winter One-derland”, so that helped guide the choices in decor and we had lots of snowflakes and a blue and white palette.
Ada wore a special onesie and leg-warmers that we’d purchased last minute the week before when my mother and I found ourselves stranded at a craft show with no change of clothes (and a strong need for one!). I’ll probably think of that craft show every time I look at these first birthday pictures.
One thing that was of great importance to me was to get a photo of Ada with her grandparents. She’s so lucky to have all four (and have them all live close by!) so I hope to document this frequently.
She’s such a lucky girl, my Ada, and so am I.
